Delta, a fine-dining restaurant, featuring contemporary Greek cuisine, opened its doors by Dipnosofistirion at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). Delta was created through an initiative and a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). It aims to become a landmark culinary destination in line with the high standards of the SNFCC and to share Greek cuisine around the world.

The creation of a pioneering restaurant at the SNFCC complements SNF’s vision for the cultural institution, which is a public space for visitors from Athens and around the world, but also a model of environmental sustainability in terms of design, construction, operation, and footprint in the wider ecosystem. The design of the restaurant has been undertaken by the award-winning firm, Kois Associated Architects.

The concept is the expression of the diverse character of Greece through an architectural atmosphere that alludes to the country’s cultural identity. “We approached the subject not through the use of historic formalities and motifs but through a strategic architectural narrative. We focused on archetypal atmospheres and mythological structures. Our goal was to create a space that is imbued with a sense of familiar hospitality and mystery that is unmistakably Greek. We opted for creating a fresh reading of the space based on a human scale in order for the visitor to feel a sense of comfort upon arrival”, explains Stelios Kois, principal architect of Kois Associated Architects.

“The circular bar”, continues Kois, “surrounded by the columns of the space is set higher marking the center of the architectural path, revealing the strategic design of the views within the space. It’s a functional sculpture created by Voukenas Petridis. The curvilinear form and the nature of its surface gives the space the feeling of a constant dynamic movement and hetero-photic glow. It is the central episode of the architectural narrative and the center of a spatial panopticity and spiralling views.”
