Join us for an intimate book signing with designer Omer Arbel at Carwan Gallery.

Omer Arbel is the work of the Vancouver-based artist and designer Omer Arbel, whose practice moves fluidly between the fields of design, architecture, sculpture, and invention.

For the first time, this comprehensive monograph captures Arbel’s varied output, bringing together twenty of his signature projects, across sculpture, industrial design and lighting pieces, and architectural projects, each identified by numbers rather than titles—a system he has used since the inception of his practice.

Arbel experiments with a wide range of materials such as glass - from which he has gained acclaim as the creative director and co-founder of design and manufacturing company Bocci - as well as clay, metal, concrete, and wax. Each work begins from material research in a signature process, where Arbel allows the intrinsic properties of a given material to suggest its form rather than imposing a preconceived idea upon it. The use of parametric design, devising a set of physical, technical, dimensional, or atmospheric constraints, allows Arbel to arrive at innovative forms that cannot be initially conceived.

The study explores a series of projects that serve to exhibit the breadth, longevity, and scale of Arbel’s work, including 113 Series, sculptural vessels that test the relationship between glass and copper, presented for the first time at Carwan Gallery Athens in 2020.
